Abstract:Postoperative immobilization is an essential part of the management of Achilles tendon injuries. Results are reported in six dogs managed with the Kirschner-Ehmer apparatus for immobilization of the tarsus as an alternative to the use of casts or splints. In all six dogs, good to excellent function was restored to the limbs after removal of the Kirschner-Ehmer apparatus. There were no immobilization or tenorraphy failures.
