Abstract:In this study, taking Mengcheng County, Huaiyuan County and Guoyang County of Huaibei Plain as investigation areas, the maize yield and 0-20 cm topsoil properties of 48 sample sites in Shajiang black soil area were analyzed. The results show that in the east and west of Guoyang County, the south of Mengcheng County and the north of Huaiyuan County, the maize yield is more than 9 t/hm2, and the soil bulk density in these areas is small. In the north of Mengcheng County, the yield of maize is less than 6.75 t/hm2, and the soil bulk density is the highest, with an average of more than 1.6 g/cm3. The content of soil organic carbon in Guoyang County is the highest, with an average of 15.4 g/kg, which is 28.8% and 55.8% higher than that in Huaiyuan County and Mengcheng County, respectively. The total soil nutrients (total nitrogen, total phosphorus and total potassium) do not change significantly with the yield grade of maize. The correlation analysis shows that maize yield is negatively correlated with soil penetration resistance (r = -0.348, P < 0.05) and soil bulk density (r = -0.484, P < 0.01). It is positively correlated with soil organic carbon (r = 0.421, P < 0.01). Therefore, this study shows that soil physical properties and soil organic carbon are the key limiting factors affecting maize yield in this area.
