Studies on the Resistance of Chinese Cabbages to Turnip Mosaic Virus and Related Biochemical Characteristics

Abstract:Twelve of self-bred lines of chinese cabbage with different resistance were studied for their characteristic correlations to the turnip mosaic virus (TuMV_(LN-1)). The highly resistant and most susceptible self-bred lines were selected, they were P1 and P2 respectively. We used them in breeding F1, F2, B1P1 and B1P2 for the detection of the characters of disease resistance and their hereditary regulations on the physiological and biochemical relationships. The result obtained was that the content of soluble solid substances, the activity of peroxidase and the total amount of amino acid appeared a very significant positive correlation with the character of disease resistance. The hydrogen peroxidase activity,tannin,soluble sugar,protein, chlorophyll, calsium, zinc and dry substances content and the electric conductivity had no significant influence on the disease resistance. Through the progressive regression analysis, the formula Y=1.3742- 0.2439x_1-0.0107x_2 was used for the proximal evaluation of disease resistance (X_1 is the quantity of the soluble solid substance, and F_2 is the total amount of the aminoacid). In the test of hybridization, the resistant characters,i.e the activities of peroxidase, the soluble solid substances and the amino acids all showed the character of quantitative inheritance, and appeared to be incomplete recessive chararcters. Using the most low gene pairs to evaluat, our results were as follows: the disease resistance were controlled by more than 4 pairs of gene; the peroxidase and soluble solid substances could be controlled by more than 2 pairs of gene, the amino acid were controlled by more than 5 pairs of gene.
