Abstract:F1 hybrid progenies were derived from the cross between female I-69(Populus deltoides cv.’Lux’),I-72(P.× euramericana cv.’San martino’) and PE-3-71(P.deltoides cv.’PE-3-71’),PE-19-66(P.deltoides cv.’PE-19-66’) and S303-26(P.deltoides cv.’S307-26’).The phenotypic variation in growth traits of F1 hybrid progenies was determined at seedling stage.General combining ability,special combining ability,phenotypic coefficient of variation,genetic coefficient of variation and broad-sense heritability of seedling height,ground diameter,and stem volume were calculated.A total of 36 clones were selected from four hybrid combinations because of their fast growth at seedling stage and superior phenotypic characteristics.The genetic gains and the rate of super-parent heterosis of the selected clones were also evaluated.The selected clones could be applied to the comparative test on field afforestation.
