| Abstract: | The occurrence and epizootiology of the baculovirus disease of the bag-worm, Crypiothelea variegata Snellen, were studied by extensive census in the suburbs of Shanghai and several provinces. This disease showed a low, but persistent incidence throughout the bagworm population. Dead or moribund larvae infected by the virus were collected and used singlely or in conjunction with a Bacillus thuringiensis preparation to control the bagworm. These preparations had an efficacy comparable with the conventional chemical pesticides and were quite promising.For the present the mass production of the virus remains to be solved because the host insect is not compatible with rearing in the laboratory. |
