Abstract: | Bacterial endocarditis is a disease of primarily middle-aged to older, large-breed dogs that is associated with high morbidity and mortality. It presents many challenges with respect to diagnosis and effective treatment. This paper reviews the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, progression, methods of diagnosis, and treatment of bacterial endocarditis in dogs. Methods for proper diagnosis, including echocardiographic findings and blood culture techniques, and recommendations for effective antimicrobial therapy are also provided. |
