The State of Development of the World Forest Industry in 1980s

In 1980s,the key points of the forest industry policy of the developed countries are 3:(l) under stable felling volume or a little increased felling volume^increasing the output of forest products,by energetically developing the comprehensive utilization of wood;(2) adjusting the structure of forest products and increasing the use value and value added of forest products by setting priority on deep and refined processing and varying the processing levels;(3) closely combining forestry with wood processing to ensure a sustainable development of forest industry.Generally speaking,in 1980s,there were three types of forest industry policies in the developed countries:(1) energetically developing forest resources and exporting large volume of log and a small volume of primary products to earn foreign change or to exchange materials;(2) limiting or prohibiting log export and resolving the problem of employment at home and of the fund and technology needed by energetically developing the production and export of products made of home produced wood;(3) energetically developing the fast growing plantations and by combining forestry with forest industry and exporting large amount of pulp and paper products to ensure a sustainable development of forest industry and to increase the income of foreign exchange,in 1980s the development of the world forest industry is noted for about four features:(1) the production of small dimension stock and commercial timber increases slowly while that of fuelwood increased rapidly;(2) among the products made of industrial timber the production of paper and paper boards pulp and panel continued to increase at a speed higher than that of sawtimber;(3) of the panel production,that of nonveneer panel increased at a speed significantly higher than that of plywood;(4) of the nonvcnecr panel production,that of medium density fiber board and structural type particle board(including WB,CWB and OSB) increased at a speed far greater than that of ordinary fiber board and particle board.
