Abstract:Fifty-year-old sweet orange(C.sinesnis Osbeck)trees were used toinvestigate the differences in amino acid contents in the spring leaves onon- and off-year trees.Altogether,16 amino acids were found to be presentin both kinds of leaves and in the fruit.The consumption and content ofphenylalanine in leaves on off-year trees were higher than those on on-yeartrees in the floral initiation period.The contents of proline in on-year treeleaves were lower than those on off-year ones all the year round.The cont-ents of arginine on off-year trees were substantially lower than those onon-year trees during floral initiatlon.The other amino acids were not relatedto floral initiation.Total amino acids in the fruit were highly significantlycorrelated with those in the leaves on on-year trees,and total amino acidsin the leaves on fruitless branches were much higher than those in the leaveson fruitless branches.
