| Abstract: | The experiments on drought resistance in different varieties of maizc (Zea mays L.) under moderate water stress were conducted in 1987--1989. The results indicated that variety Yuyu 3 had stronger abi- lity to resist drought. It could reduce water loss by increasing stomatic resistance and raise permeable potential by increasing proline content, which alleviated injury of drought to protoplasm membrane, chlorophyll and enzymes such as nitrate reductase. Therefore the development and grain yield were not seriously influenced, but in variety Baihe, it is not the case. |
