Abstract:Petroleum growth substance (PGS) (its active ingredients: salts of naphthenic acids) is a kind of plant growth regulator, which is of wide bioregulative activity, and the use of PGS has been researched in many countries in the world, and its efficacious results have called forth great attention. This paper collects hundreds of writings of the past decades about PGS, referring to its characteristics, toxicity, physiological and biochemical behavior, applied methods and effects on over seventy cultivated plants, and its use in some poultry, livestock and silk. worms. This paper also gives a comprehensive and systematic introduction to PGS with the authour's own results in research.
