Abstract:Remote sensing detection of suspended sediment was carried out in the Yangtse River estuary by the utility of MODIS images and analysis of principles of sediment remote sensing detection. The (results) show that:(1) the suspended sediment quantity of the immediate offshore area is higher, thereinto, the suspended sediment concentration of Hangzhou bay is higher than that of the Yangtse river estuary.(2) the suspended sediment in the yangtse river estuary and near shore zone come into being from (resupension),and the density and area of sediment in winter is higher than that in spring;(3) surface runoff and ocean motive are the main factors affecting the suspended sediment concentration of river estuary zone and water area near ocean, and the tide of ocean motive and wave are dominant factors.
Keywords:the yangtse river estuary  the suspended sediment  Remote Sensing detection  MODIS images
