Abstract:The aim of this experiment was to investigate the actual growth performance,fertility and the production benefits of Holstein calves in a high concentrate fertilization mode.In this experiment,300 male Holstein calves aged 210±2.07 d and weighing 243±17.01 kg were used,which were divided into pre-fertilization(7~9 months),transitional period(10~11 months)and post-fertilization(12~18 months)stages.The results showed that the average gain of the herd was 70 kg in the pre-fertilization,with the ADG being over 1.4 kg in the period;the ADG during the transition period was 1.43 kg,which was significantly higher than that of 9 months of age(1.00 kg);the ADG was 1.46 kg and 1.6 kg at 12 and 13 months of age respectively.The ADG dropped to less than 1 kg after 17 months of age.During fattening period,as the age increased,the feed rate tended to decrease.In terms of economic benefits,the gross profit and average annual margin were RMB 1,311 yuan/head and 23 percentage points higher than those of the traditional fattening mode pursing cattle from other districts.This shows that the high concentrate calf fattening model can be promoted and used in large and medium-sized calf fattening farms in China.
