Abstract:Detailed knowledge of the current status and developing trends of forest resources is the precondition of plan making of forest resources management. There are some weakness in the procedure of traditional forest sampling , such as labor-intensive, poor visibility of spatial distribution of sampling points, complex working of indoor data analysis, unable to do multiple scenarios simulation and comparison, etc. In the article, the neces- sary functions of GIS-based simulation software were firstly described. Then, the characteristics of four sam- piing simulation software, namely Hawth' s Tools, RRQRR, S-Draw, SSSI were introduced. Finally, two crite- ria of average sampling error and sampling efficiency were created to compare the performance of fo~ sampling simulation software through simulation sampling on forest stock in Zijin Mountain National Forest Park in order to provide scientific basis for the popularization of sampling simulation software.
