Abstract: | Experiments in Scottish and English forest nurseries compareddazomet with formalin as partial soil sterilants for coniferseedbeds. In most cases, the more easily handled dazomet notonly proved to be an acceptable alternative to formalin forimproving seedling growth and yield but also gave excellentweed control. Results from a large-scale trial in a Scottishnursery confirmed these findings and showed that the higherchemical cost of dazomet sterilization could be offset by reducedweeding costs. Dazomet treatment recommendations have been derivedfrom the trials. |
