The prevalence of cestodes in farm dogs in mid-wales

Five hundred and eight farm dogs in mid-Wales were treated with arecoline acetarsol during 1975. Cestodes recovered from their faeces were identified as follows: Echinococcusgranulosus, Taenia hydatigena, Taenia multiceps, Taenia ovis, Taenia pisiformis, Taenia serialis, and Dipylidium caninum.Many dogs were treated on three different occasions during the 12 months, and changes in the prevalence over this period were shown. The greatest rise in prevalence rate from January to May was seen for E. granulosus while T. hydatigena was most prevalent in January. All other species, except T. serialis, were found in low numbers throughout the year.
