英语介词汉译的基本规则和方法

介词虽然是虚词,但在英语中起着十分重要的作用,有些语言学家认为“英语是介词的语言”。由于英语介词的用法复杂而灵活,因此它们的翻译不易掌握。本文通过许多具体例句,总结出介词英译汉的一条基本规律和若干翻译方法。 在多数情况下,英语介词都可译成汉语的动词,因为汉语中介词少而动词多,而且大部分介词都源自动词。虚词实译是翻译中的一条基本原则。此外,本文提供了几个常用介词英译汉的方法。

A BASIC PRINCIPLE AND SEVERAL METHODS OF ENGLISH PREPOSITON TRANSLATION

Although prepositions are function words, yet they play a very important role in English. Some linquists think that English is a language of preposition. Since English preposition usuage is very complex and elastic, the translation of prepositions is too difficult to be mastered. In this paper the author sums up a basic principle and several methods of preposition translation from English into Chinese by using quite a few practical examples.In many cases, English prepositions can be translated into verbs in Chinese, because there are few prepositions and a lot of verbs in it, and most of the Chinese prepositions are originated from verbs. It is one of the basic principles of ranslation that the function words may be translated into the notional -words. In addition, several methods of preposition translation from English into Chinese are offered through some current English prepositions.
