Abstract: | Steven Mosher, who was expelled from the Stanford University anthropology department's doctoral program in February 1983 for alleged illegal and unethical activities while conducting field research in China, has now appealed his case to the level of a university vice provost who is dean of graduate studies. Mosher, who contends he was ousted because he published an article in Taiwan about China's birth control practices, has been satisfied with Stanford's handling of the case as an internal matter, even though some people have suggested that an outside review would at least provide the appearance of a more objective assessment of the evidence. |
