DISCUSSION ON THE TRANSLATION CRITERION OF "XIN, DA, YA" THROUGHOUT THE GREATER PART OF THE PAST CENTURY

The translation criterion "Xin, Da, Ya", which stands for exact, fluent and graceful, was advanced by Yanfu in the end of Qing Dynasty. This criterion has had a profound influence on translation circles. Quoting a lot of concrete reference materials, the author of this article analyzes various views on this criterion from scholars in the greater part of the past century. And then on the basis of the analysis, the author gives his own opinion: Luxun's view of "literal Translation "was completely correct in his time. The translation criterion "Xin, Da, Ya" has been perfected in its development; Practice has proved that this criterion will be continued in the future and will be beneficial to the translation field.
