The relation between grain and population in China

Based on county′s statistical data from 1980,1990 and 2000,using population-grain curve,Gini coefficient,the relation between population and grain on county scale was analyzed and the changing rule of the relation was explored in order to provide science base to ensure food security in China.The results showed:(1) The degree of imbalance on relation between population and grain was increasing,which illuminated that the centralization on grain production was increasing and cooperation between regions was important to ensure nation food security;(2) The relation between population and grain experienced a process of relatively balance on low level-unbalance on high level-more unbalance on relatively low level from 1980 to 2000,which meant a lot of counties would face grain deficit once grain production decrease;(3) The grain deficits in depressed areas have been lessened but grain deficit still puzzled those areas where it was very difficult to ensure food security.Grain production counties had grain surplus since 1980 and the surplus has been increasing as a whole.Grain production counties played an important role in ensuring food security in China.
