The isosmotic concept in relation to the aquaculture of the giant prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii

Several workers have suggested that maximal growth of an organism should occur in isosmotic media, since the animals would not be expending energy in doing osmotic work. Growth and osmoregulatory studies, however, show that this is not true in the giant prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii. This paper attempts to explain the phenomenon.
