Abstract:

The study was designed to determine the mode of interaction between maize ( Zea mays L.) and soybean ( Glycine max Merr.) in association with purple nutsedge. This was investigated under glasshouse conditions using the replacement (substitutive) series design. Maize and soybean competed with purple nutsedge for growth resources, and purple nutsedge significantly retarded the growth and development of maize and soybean. Maize was more susceptible to purple nutsedge interference compared with soybean.
