| Abstract: | The ecological concept lying in the basis of the Red Data Book of Soils is outlined. This book serves as a scientific and legal framework for the protection of the soil cover and soil diversity. A network of specially protected soil areas in Orenburg oblast is planned with the aim to protect soil taxa included in the book. It is argued that the legislative basis of the special protection of soils and other components of the biosphere should be developed with due account for the status of the Red Data Book of Soils. The concept of the Red Data Book of Soils of Orenburg Oblast is in line with the ideas formulated in the Red Data Book of Russian Soils. |
