On the Major Models and Fundamental Approach to thethe Management of Tropical Forests in the Word

Abstract The author describes the current status of tropical forests in the world, andavers that they play a significant role in stabilizing the global and regional envi-ronments. Tropical forest management and protection are subjects of worldwide impor-tance. It is a system engineering to solve the problems concerning tropicl forests, be-cause it involves many factors such as administrative and lesal measures, management, technology and funds. The major management types of tropical forests are grouped into1 0 types and are discussed in details. They are: (1) limited fellins and reseneration afterfelling, (2) exploitation of the less known tree species, (3) extractionism, (4) estab-lishment of nature reserves, (5) "support type "silviculture, (6) "inhibition type "silvi-culture (moderate silviculture), (7)intact forest silviculture, (8)special silviculture, (9)felling in strip, (10) the "cut three an retain seven" method in Hainan Island, China.
