This paper describes the researches on using pheromone and light for insect trap-ping and prediction and other sophiscated prediction technology.In the field of insect predic-tion,researches on the technique of predicting the incidence period,size of population,extent of damage and infestationareas are related.The development trend in the techniques of forest insect prediction in foreign countries is:focussing on the theoretical basis and appli-edtheory of scientific and technical prediction of forest insects,immediately using modern advanced science and techniques to predict forest insects,guiding the science and technologyof forest insect prediction to a multidisciplinary developmental direction,conducting researches on the methods of systematical prediction of all forest insects and emphasing the extension of the scientific and technical knowledge of insect prediction.
