Safety and efficacy of attenuated Salmonella gallinarum vaccine strain 97A in chickens

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of attenuated Salmonella gallinarum strain 97A as vaccine to protect chickens against salmonellosis caused by virulent S.gallinarum.Salmonella-free chickens were inoculated through orally or intramuscularly at 10-day of age with different doses.The 10-day of age chickens were vaccinated orally with 108，5×108，109 colony-forming units(CFU) and were challenged 14 days later by oral or intramuscular inoculation of 5×109 or 109 colony-forming units(CFU) of virulent S.gallinarum. 　　All vaccinated groups produced antibodies detectable at the 7th day post vaccination and had higher antibody response at the 14th day post vaccination and gave significantly higher protection than control groups,It suggested that 97A has potential as a low virulent and high effective vaccine to aid in the prevention of fowl typhoid and the related disease in chickens.
