Abstract: | A virus inhibitor in Celosia was shown to have moderate thermal stability and resistance to dilution and drying. It was non-dialysable and non-sedimentable and showed glycoproteinaceous characteristics with a molecular weight between 21 000 and 22 000. The inhibitory activity was not reversible by simultaneous application of actinomycin-D to the leaf surface of Nicotiana glutinosa and the virus was fully recovered from a mixture of tobacco mosaic virus and inhibitor, indicating that the inhibitor did not appear to act on the virus directly but interfered with virus establishment in the host. |
