Abstract:To investigate the effects of exogenous ABA(Abscisic acid,ABA)on alleviating cadmium toxicity in switchgrass(Panicum virgatum)and its possible physiological mechanisms,two switchgrass varieties‘Alamo’and‘Cave in Rock’were used in the experiment.The effects of 1μmol·L-1(ABA)pretreatment on biomass,root morphology,membrane lipid peroxidation and proline of switchgrass seedlings under hydroponic culture conditions with addition 20μmol·L-1 Cd2+ were investigated.The results showed that Cd significantly inhibited the growth of switchgrass.‘Cave in Rock’was more tolerant to Cd than‘Alamo’,but‘Alamo’had a higher Cd accumulation and translocation capacity than‘Cave in Rock’.Compared with Cd stress alone,1μmol·L-1ABA pretreatment significantly increased root length,root surface area and root tip number,increased root vigour,proline(Pro)and relative water content of leaves,reduced malondialdehyde(MDA)content in the plant and promoted Cd uptake of‘Alamo’.The results suggest that planting‘Alamo’and treating it with low concentrations of ABA is recommended on Cd-contaminated land to promote plant growth while improving the remediation of Cd-contaminated soil.
