Abstract:The effect of ethylene biosynthesis inhibitor Co2 on iron reducing activity of roots in pea plants was studied in nutrient solution. The results showed that 100mol/L CoSO4 inhibited iron reducing activity of roots in iron deficient E107 plants but not in iron sufficient plants. 100mol/L CoSO4 stimulated root responses of Sparkle peas while 1 or 10 mol/L CoSO4 did not affect the responses significantly. There was a poor correlation between ethylene release and iron reducing activity of roots. These suggested that the effect of Co2 on iron deficiency responses of roots depended on its concentration and plant genotypes. The involvement of ethylene in regulating of root responses has not been determined.
