Abstract:This experiment was aimed to investigate the effect of different dosages of Saccharomyces boulardii on growth performance,nutrient apparent digestibility and serum biochemical indexes of lactation calves.Forty-eight healthy Chinese Holstein calves(weighing 38.16±3.73 kg)were randomly divided into four groups with 12 calves per group(6 males,6 females).The control group was fed a basal diet,the experimental groups were supplemented with Saccharomyces boulardii at 1,3,and 5 g/d per calf,respectively.The experiment lasted for 42 d.The results showed:(1)Group Ⅱ,Ⅲ were significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05)at 21 d.The average daily weight gain and average daily feed intake in experimental groups from 1 to 21 days were all significantly higher(P<0.05)than that of the control.Feed conversion rates during 21 days were significantly lower in the experimental groups than in the control group(P<0.05),but chest girth and chest depth were significantly higher in Group Ⅱ and Ⅲ than that in the control(P<0.05).(2)GroupⅡhad higher levels of apparent digestibility of dry matter,crude protein,ether extract,neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber(P<0.05)than the control at 42 d.(3)At day 21,the serum TP and GLB concentrations in group Ⅱ were higher than control group(P<0.05).At day 42,the serum TG concentrations groupsⅡandⅢwere significantly lower(P<0.05).It is concluded that adding Saccharomyces boulardii to the diet of the calves in the early stage can improve growth performance and promote the digestion and absorption of nutrients.The optimal effect is achieved by adding 3 g(1.38×1010 CFU/g)Saccharomyces boulardii to lactation calf.
