Abstract: | A distilled water leachate was prepared from a hardwood-leaf compost. The 13C NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectra of organic acids isolates from this leachate provided support for the hypothesis that the composition of the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the leachate is very similar to that in natural soil pore waters. The leachate DOC was adsorbed by a model mineral surface, and the organic coating on the surface was characterized by solid-state 13C NMR spectroscopy. |
