Abstract:
Moisture sorption tests and compression tangential tests at 25°C were carried out on specimens of mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) wood from Peru. The tests were performed over seven adsorption and five desorption moisture conditions, and differences in strength between adsorption and desorption curves at a given equilibrium moisture content were evaluated. The results showed that second-order effects in mahogany wood were not discernible in either the tangential compliance coefficient or for the stress at the proportional limit in tangential compression.
