泰国榴莲出口潜力研究

Export Potential of Durian in Thailand

Fruit is Thailand''s important pillar industry in the agricultural product economic structure system, and durian is the second largest export fruit in Thailand. At present, the whole Thailand tends to expand durian production and planting. The durian export is rising, but has not met the production requirement, particularly in the mid dry season when most of durian rushed to the market, usually resulting in poor marketing or low price due to oversupply. In this context a SWOT analytical approach was adopted to analyze the export of Thai durian to make some suggestion to improve the export potential of durian in Thailand. The SWOT analysis showed that export advantages of Thai durian lie in that Thailand has adequate land soil and climate for planting durian, large enough land area for durian growing and expansion, high durian yield, etc. However, the disadvantages lie in that knowledge and cultural practices in durian growing were limited, including poor disease and pest management, low yielding traditional cultural practice, low production efficiency, etc.
