首先分析了格尔木市可持续能力建设的支撑条件，重点从资源基础和未来发展潜力两方面进行了分析，认为格尔木的资源条件优越，区位条件独特，具有很好的发展潜力。其次，分析了格尔木市可持续发展中面临的突出问题，主要是经济结构单一、环境污染严重和基础设施难以适应城市发展的需要。最后，提出了优化经济结构、适时进行经济结构转换和完善城市基础设施等格尔木市可持续能力建设的主要途径。

Building the Capacity for Sustainable Development in Gelmud City

Three aspects of building the capacity of sustainable development in Gelmud City are analyzed.First, the supporting conditions for building the capacity of sustainable development in Gelmud City.Gelmud City has plentiful natural resources and a good location.It has great potentialities to become a medium sized city in the near future.Second, the problems that limit the further development of the city:economy mainly depending on the exploitation and utilization of mineral resources, serious environmental pollution, and backwardness of infrastructure.Last, three ways are point out for building the capacity of sustainable development in Gelmud City:i.e.readjusting the economic structure and comprehensive use of the natural resources, further developing the infrastructure, and reducing the dependence of economy on the mineral resources.
