Abstract:This study evaluated the effects of dietary insect protein meal(mealworms)instead of soybean meal on growth performance,nutrient digestion and feeding cost of meat rabbits.Sixty meat rabbits with an average body weight of(712.16±0.37)g were randomly divided into 2 groups with 5 replicates per group and 6 rabbits per replicate.Rabbits in control group and treatment group were fed 8%soybean meal and 8%mealworm basal diet,respectively,during the whole 8-week feeding experiment.Results:Compared with the control group,the weight of meat rabbits in treatment group at 12 w was significantly increased by 1.11%(P<0.05),but the average daily feed intake at 4~8 w,the ratio of feed to gain at 9~12 W and 4~12 w were significantly decreased by 4.38%,4.55%and 4.15%(P<0.05),respectively.There were no significant differences in apparent digestibility of dry matter,organic matter,crude protein,gross energy,neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber and nitrogen deposition between control group and treatment group(P>0.05).Compared with treatment group,nitrogen intake,fecal nitrogen and urinary nitrogen excretion of meat rabbits in control group were significantly increased by 12.88%,15.45%and 46.67%(P<0.05),respectively.There was no significant difference in feed price between control group and treatment group(P>0.05),and the feed cost of meat rabbits in treatment group was significantly reduced by 0.8,0.74 and 1.54 yuan compared with control group in each stage,respectively.At the same time,the cost of weight~increasing feed in late growth period(8~12 w)and whole experiment period(4~12 w)was significantly reduced by 1.19 yuan/kg and 0.86 yuan/kg,respectively.Conclusion:Dietary mealworm 8%instead of soybean meal can improve feed efficiency,reduce fecal nitrogen and urinary nitrogen excretion,and reduce weight gain cost by 0.86 yuan/kg in the whole experiment period.
