Abstract: | It has recently been highlighted that significant differences in prevalence, risk factors and the response to treatment exist between ulceration of the squamous gastric mucosa and ulceration of the glandular gastric mucosa in the horse. In the first article in the series, the term equine squamous gastric ulcer syndrome (ESGUS) was used to describe disease of the squamous gastric mucosa with clinical signs and diagnosis discussed. The purpose of this article is to review the pathophysiology, risk factors, prevalence, treatment and prevention of ESGUS. |
