Abstract:Hengduanshan mountains region is one of the important hotspots for biodiversity distribution on the world, but no attention has been paid to the soil fauna in forest ecosystem in this region. The aim of the study is to ascertain the spatial distribution characters of soil macrofauna in forest ecosystem in Hengduanshan mountains regions. Investigations were conducted on seven soil macrofauna communities under different vegetation types at different elevation in Miyaluo forest area, Westernorth Sichuan province in November 2007. A total of 1395 soil macrofauna individuals was captured and classified into 3 phylums, 8 classes, 29 orders and 30 groups. Diptera larva, Coleoptera larva, Spirostreptida and Megadrile oligochaetes, being the dominant groups, took up 67.96% of the total individual. The common groups were 9 categories and the rare groups were 17 categories, accounting for 28.35% and 3.69%, respectively. The group number, Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Margalef richness index of soil macrofauna communities declined with the elevation increasing from 2659 m to 3176 m and then increased from 3176 m to 3845 m with significant difference (P<0.05). The number of dominant group and special group decreased with elevation increasing, but the individual densities fluctuated with no significant difference (P>0.05). The similarities between the natural vegetations were higher than those between the natural vegetation and plantation. The analysis showed that dominant group number positively correlated, significantly, with total phosphorus contents and the special group number correlated negatively with elevations (P<0.05). The results indicated that the soil macrofauna diversities in Miyaluo forest areas are more richness and the species of community compositions at different elevation gradients differenced to each other.
