Effects of early comprehensive intervention on movement and intelligence development of premature low birth weight infants

Objective To observe the therapeutic efficacy of early comprehensive intervention in the movement and intelligence development of premature low birth weight infants （PLBWIs）. Methods A total of 127 PLBWIs whose develop- ment quotient was less than 75 by GeseU Developmental Schedules were randomly divided into intervention group （n=67） and control group （n=60）. The intervention group were treated with three sessions of early comprehensive intervention including exercise, physiotherapy, pharmacotherapy and home rehabilitation guidance, while the control group received the general care. Their development situation was evaluated by Gesell Developmental Schedules during 6-month follow-up. Results Compared with the control group, the scores of athletic ability, adaptive ability, linguistic competence, social ability and development quotient increased （P〈0.01）, but the incidence of cerebral palsy and other neurological damage complications decreased （P〈0.05） in the intervention group. Conclusion The early comprehensive intervention can improve the movement and intelligence development and reduce the incidence of cerebral palsy and other neurological damage complications in PLBWls.
