Abstract: In order to understand the operational characteristics of the Beijing vegetable market, the first quarter vegetable market data in 2023 was analyzed, which indicated that the vegetable market in Beijing in the first quarter of 2023 continued the trend of high prices in the past three years, with average vegetable prices basically unchanged year-on-year. Since March, vegetable prices had rapidly declined and were lower than the same period in 2022. The prices of solanaceous vegetables had significantly decreased year-on-year, while the prices of long shelf life and leafy vegetables had increased year-on-year. The alternating increase and decrease of vegetable prices between years was more obvious, especially in cultivars of long production cycles such as solanaceous and long shelf life storage. The trend of continuous decrease of vegetable supply in the wholesale market was still ongoing. These were affected by factors such as the northward relocation of vegetable supply areas, changes in production methods, decrease in production costs, and the potential increase in production area caused by the continuous high vegetable prices in recent years, it was expected that there would still be significant downward space for vegetable prices in the second quarter of 2023. The vegetable prices will continue to rise in the third and fourth quarter of 2023.
