Abstract:Central nervous system disease occurred in a herd of rotationally grazed beef cattle consuming water containing 3400 ppm sulfate. Clinical signs, pathologic findings, and high water sulfate levels confirmed the diagnosis of sulfur-induced polioencephalomalacia. The incidence of disease reduced when the herd was switched to a low sulfate water source.
