Endosperm Cell Proliferating and Grain Filling Dynamics in Wheat

The study on endosperm cell proliferating and grain filling was carried out on the Experimental Field of Crop Cultivation and Physiology Key Laboratory, Agricultural College of Yangzhou University from 1994 to 1997.The results showed that the development of wheat grain endosperm cells included endosperm cell proliferating and filling. Richards equation could be used to match the proliferation of endosperm cells. The process could be divided into slowly-increase, fast-increase and slightly-increase phases. Superior grains had more endosperm cells and higher grain weight than inferior grains. Equation y=(a bx)/x could be used to match the starch accumulation dynamic. Starch synthesis was closely related to initial sucrose content and decomposing rate. The higher the sucrose content was, the more the starch accumulation amount was. Starch content in superior grains was higher than that in inferior grains. Grain soluble protein content increased continuously after anthesis.
