A Tentative Study of the Application of Paclobutrazol to Cucumber

Different varieties of cucumber have been treated by using different methods and different concentration with paclobutrazol, a plant growth regulator. The experimental results show that the cucumber treated with paclobutrazol is reduced in height,shortened in plant type, increased to varying degrees in chlorophyll content and net assimilation rate, decreased in permeability of cell membrane and increased in the cold resistance of its seedling.Besides, the plant disease is lightened during cultivation, the joint position of the first female flower is lowered, the number of female flowers is increased and so the yield is raised to a certain extent without impairing the quality of the cucumber.
