| Abstract: | Kraft (sulphate) pulps were prepared from Australian grown Acacia mearnsii and Acacia silvestris . Both species were pulped with 13% active alkali to yield about 53% of screened pulp of Kappa number 20. The pulps were bleached using CEHD sequence to a brightness of 81% and the yields of bleached pulps were 50% on oven dry wood basis. Paper-making properties of both unbleached and bleached pulps from the two species are very similar. They are suitable for producing a wide range of papers and paperboard products. Tests on the used pulping liquors suggest that the recovery of pulping chemicals from acacia pulping liquors may be easier than that from mature eucalypt black liquors. |
