Review and Prospect of Plant Fibre Science Research of the Institnte of Bast Fibre Crops,CAAS

The paper reviews the achievements of plant fiber science research of the institute of bast fibre crops of CAAS,the areas mentioned are: breeding and extension of new varieties of ramie,flax and jute/kenaf;germplasm resource research of bast fiber crops;technology of planting bast fiber crops;study and popularization of bast fiber processing technology and device;bast fiber biological degumming and its product processing;especially ethanol production of cellulosic material and environment friendly bast fiber film.The article also analyses the development trends of plant fiber sciences.The trends are bast fiber crops extended to fiber plant,agricultural microbiology to enzyme preparation on processing means,traditional textile materials to bio-energy and biomaterials on the products.
