Abstract: | The production of rhizomorphs by Armillaria mellea from stumps samples collected in East Anglia was studied: those of broad-leaved trees produced greater yields than those of pines and, in the absence of poisoning, over a much longer period after felling. The ability of A. mellea to form rhizomorphs is often reduced after prolonged growth in pine tissues. The interaction of A. mellea and other fungi is briefly considered. Some implications of these observations for forestry practice are discussed. |
