国外小径原木加工与利用现状及进展

小径原木是当今世界上主要的木材资源之一,各国均在积极开发利用。文内着重介绍了林业发达国家在研究小径原木的材性特征和主要产品加工工艺特点等方面所取得的成果和经验。

A General Review on Development of Processing and Utilization of Small Size Log

With rapid and excessive exploitation of forest resources in the past few decades, natural forest resources have been greatly reduced by harvesting on a large scale for commercial use and at the same time shortrotational intensively managed industrial timber plantations are developed quickly. As a result, small size log becomes one of the important wood resources for industrial utilization at present time in the world. Compared with conventional size of wood, most of small size log in a range of diameter from 6 to 24cm is usually considered as low grade timber, which includes high rate of juvenile wood, and has a low value and large variation in strength. It has a narrow scope of potential utilization. This paper presents a general review of the meaning, standard, wood characteristics and properties in processing of small dimension timber. The paper also suggests some special technological processes for conversion of the low quality wood into high-value forest products such as furniture with immense economic returns obtained, and with the wood shortage significantly reduced. It is concluded that the research and exploitation of small size log is an urgent need for protection of the world forest resources and environment, and sufficient close attention should be paid to it in China.
