Using a host of new technologies, vaccine developers are trying to target the malaria parasite at every stage of its complex life cycle. Researchers now predict that within 5 or 10 years they will have a successful vaccine that will actually save lives. But in malaria vaccine research, the concept of "success" comes with caveats.
