Abstract: | Summary Phenotypic variation, SDS-PAGE and protein-DNA binding were used to determine variation during the in vitro phase of potato plantlets derived from callus and cell suspensions. Of the 27 plantlets assessed. 3 displayed a low or abnormal growth, 16 normal growth which correlated well with the original explant and 9 showed strong or vigorous growth. Differences were not observed in the polypeptide profiles of these plantlets. However distinct differences in the protein-DNA-binding profiles occurred which correlated well with the phenotypic variation observed. |
