Abstract:Pseudostellaria heterophylla is a medicinal plant in subtropical China. During 2018-2019, a new di-sease caused sour rot on the tuberous roots of P. heterophylla was found at Zherong County, Fujian Province. The tuberous roots have been infected by the pathogen at the harvest period, resulting in a sour-smelling watery mass. Based on the disease symptoms, morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of the rDNA-ITS sequences along with the pathogenicity tests for the represent isolates, the pathogen was identified as Geotrichum candidum. To our knowledge, this is the first report of Ge. candidum causing sour rot on the tuberous roots of P. heterophylla in China.
