Abstract:1. The physical nature and chemical composition of the eggs from several breeds, White Leghorn, Rhode Island Red, Sussex, Maran, Dwarf Sussex and English Gamecock, have been studied.

2. The water content was highest in White Leghorn eggs, which were the heaviest.

3. Cholesterol content was similar in all eggs except for Dwarf Sussex in which it was less.

4. English Gamecock eggs contained a higher proportion of protein than those of the other breeds.

5. From the data presented, egg size, under similar conditions of feeding, does not determine the contents of components of the egg, but there are underlying genetic factors.
