Pattern of Induced Phase Change and Determination of the End of the Juvenile Phase of Ornamental Plants

Manipulation of flowering requires determining the end of the juvenile phase,during which an inductive condition has no effect on flowering.Quantified parameters,determination criteria,and routine procedures to assess the end of juvenility are reviewed and constant standards are provided.The transition from the juvenile to mature phase under inductive conditions is defined as induced phase change,which is summarized into five basic patterns .Characteristics and examples of each pattern,determination of the end of the juvenile stage in each pattern,factors affecting determinate of induced phase change and long-existing controversies related to phase change are also discussed.
